Following the untimely passing of Great Grand Master Lau Fat Mang, Grand Master Gini Lau continued her studies in the Peking opera. The Peking opera is famous for its martial tumbling and gymnastics, both of which form a primary part of Eagle Claw Kung Fu. Grand Master Gini Lau became a star of the Peking opera with other such notables in her class as Jackie Chan and Samo Hung. Grand Master Lau worked in the Peking opera until 1973, when she moved to America.
Early memories of the years spent at the Peking opera school during the rigorous training undertaken with the other 65 members of the troupe. Working for what seemed more than 25 hours a day, the day started at 7.00am where Grand Master Lau and her classmates would get up and take the bus to where SiFu William Yu (Master Lau's Peking Opera teacher) lived. Training started at exactly 8.00am with acrobatics, somersaults and kung fu training.
At 12.00midday there was a break for lunch and then start again at 2.00pm for more floor practice until 6.00pm, from there it was time to hop back on the bus and go to the theatre where warm up, costume and make up had to be applied, ready for the first show at 8.30pm. The troupe would then perform until 10.00pm before cleaning up and getting back on the bus to arrive home at around 11.00pm. Just before midnight was time for a quick snack before going to sleep at round 12.00am, sometimes extra hours would be put in around Chinese New Year and other holidays. This regime was followed seven days a week. Master Lau recounts the same tales that Jackie Chan has often mentioned of the strict and very disciplined training whilst at the Opera school. Punishment sometime came in the form of doing a handstand up against a wall for an hour. A film was made of the years that Grand Master Lau spent at the opera school called "Painted Faces" it tells the story of the 7 Little Fortunes which was the nickname for Grand Master Lau and her direct class mates.
After moving to America, Grand Master Lau began entering Martial arts tournaments and winning against all male finalists bought Master Lau great notoriety. From there on she was asked to only demonstrate. Her fame at these tournaments attracted the attention of Hollywood and the film studios. Master Lau has starred in Martial arts movies such as Eric Lee's "Weapons of Death”, "The Killer Elite” and “The Flacon Claw”, she also appeared on NBC's “world of martial arts”.
Grand Master Gini Lau heads up a number of branches within the Lau Fat Mang World Eagle Claw Kung Fu association. Schools can be found in Sacramento, San Ramon and Texas in the USA. The European Head Quarters is run by Master Lau's senior student Master Julian Dale. Grand Master Lau travels to the UK every two years to give seminars on Eagle Claw Kung Fu.
